Coating Concerns
Adhesion
CAUSES
- Painting a surface that is damp from moisture or humidity.
- Improper surface preparation where contaminants, oil, rust or mil scale were not removed.
- Exposing a fresh paint film to extreme weather conditions such as ice, rain, low temperatures or high humid conditions. This can lead to an improper cure times.
SOLUTIONS
- Remove loose paint by scraping, sandblasting or pressure wash.
- Prime effected areas and re coat with an oil based primer and top coat.
- Reference Product spec for proper storage and dry time handling procedures.
- Contact our office so we can help you determine the cause and how best to address the problem.
TOOLS:
- Product Spec Sheet
- Oil Based Primer
- Covered storage area for painted parts.
Coating Concerns
Blistering
CAUSES
- Painting in direct sunlight or on a surface that is too warm.
- Application of an oil-based or alkyd paint over a damp, wet surface.
- Exposing of a fresh latex paint film to dew, high humidity or rain.
- Insufficient surface preparation that stops the coatings from adhering to the substrate.
SOLUTIONS

Coating Concerns
Chalking
CAUSES
- Long-term exposure to moisture and sunlight
- Using a low-quality paint
- Over thinning the paint or spreading it too thin
- Not priming and sealing a porous surface
SOLUTIONS
- Remove all chalk residue by pressure-washing or sand-blasting. A wire brush and detergent may also be used. Rinse thoroughly with a strong stream of water from a garden hose.
- If noticeable chalk still remains, use oil based primer as the first coat of paint and finish using a high-quality topcoat.
